It’s Beethoven’s 250th birthday this year: let’s celebrate!

The Great Beethoven Challenge!

Beethoven is one of the greatest composers of all time, and it’s his 250th birthday this year.

I thought it might be a good idea for everyone to learn at least one of his pieces, and enjoy the beauty and majesty of his music, and the praise and acclamation of friends and family!

ABC Classic FM: Beethoven Top 100

In June 2020, ABC-FM conducted a poll to find the most popular Beethoven pieces in Australia.

You can read the results here:

Beethoven Classic 100

‎‎

Here are some pieces you can choose from...

‎‎

Fur Elise

This is certainly one of Beethoven’s most-loved pieces, and certainly one of the best known.

I have four different levels of this piece, ranging from Preliminary to Grade 5, so if you’re a beginner, don’t worry: you can play this piece too!

Here’s my favourite recording (it’s old, so there’s no video, just audio...)

Beethoven: “Fur Elise” (Wilhelm Kempff)

Moonlight Sonata

Well, the famous first movement, anyway...

I have 4 different arrangements of this, ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 7.

Beethoven: Sonata Nr 14, “Moonlight” (Daniel Barenboim)

Here are some more choices (I’ll include videos when I get the time!)

Piano Concert 3

Sonata Pathetique, 2nd Movement

I have three levels of this.

Symphony 5

Symphony 6: Theme from the ‘Pastoral’ Symphony

Symphony 7: Allegretto

Symphony 9: Ode To Joy

(Also known as “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee”)

Turkish March

Sonatina in G major

There are many more pieces available: just ask me during your lesson!
