Please note: here at Blue Mountains Piano School ALL students have the option of doing face-to-face exams in 2020 AND 2021
2020 was NOT a good year for many AMEB students.
The response of the AMEB was less accommodating than either ANZCA or AIME. Some students were unable to do exams, many had to do condensed video exams.
The AMEB has sent an email out today regarding face to face exams in 2021. I’ve included the full text below.
Basically, many AMEB students will still need to do video exams in 2021.
This does NOT affect any of my students.
I use the better AIME syllabus, which will be having face-to-face exams in December.
Also, any of my students doing AMEB are able to switch to AIME.
The AIME syllabus is an expanded version of Piano For Leisure, with the addition of a classical piece and study, and some useful chords and jazz scales (which all my students do anyway!)

2021 EXAM DATES
Video Repertoire Exams
Video Exams - First Session 20 (Video Repertoire Exams only)
Video Repertoire Exams will be available in 2021. The exam session will commence earlier than our usual face-to-face Metro First Session exam period.
- 27 January 2021 – Enrolments open via AMEB Connect
- 7 June 2021 – Enrolments close
- Video submissions due within 21 days from the date of enrolment
- Video exams cannot be recorded any earlier than three weeks prior to enrolling.
- Video Repertoire Exams will be examined from February to June.
- Videos recorded in 2020 will not be accepted under any circumstance.

Metro - First Session
Metro - First Session 06 (Schools and External Venues only, all grades)
For 2021, Session 06 will only be available for Metropolitan grade candidates who enrol through schools or have arranged to be examined at suitable and approved external venues. Enrollers wishing to enrol for their face-to-face exams at external venues must obtain permission from the venue owner, who will provide you with their venue code. A venue code is required for enrolments in Session 06. AMEB (NSW) can only provide venue codes to venue owners. More information about becoming an external venue.
Metro - First Session 66 (AMEB venues, Grade 8, Certificate and Diploma)
We understand that many enrollers would still like their candidates to sit for a face-to-face comprehensive exam if possible in 2021.
However, due to health and safety requirements and the social distancing limitations around COVID-19, this will only be possible for a small fraction of the candidates who usually attend the Clarence Street and Sydney Conservatorium exam venues in Sydney this year.
These exams will take place in a newly-created Session 66, which will only be available for Grade 8, Certificate and Diploma candidates at our Sydney Venues.
- 27 January 2021 – Enrolments open via AMEB Connect
- 8 March 2021 – Enrolments close (15 March for NESA accredited schools)
- Exam dates - 1 May to 12 June 2021

Regional - First Session
Regional - First Session 02 (All instruments and Speech & Drama, and including AMusA if sufficient numbers - subject to venue availability)

- 12 April 2021 – Enrolments close for Period 1 (Central Coast, Canberra and South Coast). Exam dates 14 June - 5 July 2021.
- 26 April 2021 – Enrolments close for Period 2 (Newcastle and Maitland). Exam dates 23 June - 10 July 2021.
- 26 April 2021 – Enrolments close for Period 3 (Wollongong). Exam dates 23 June - 2 July 2021.
- 17 May 2021 – Enrolments close for Period 4 (North, North Coast, West, South). Exam dates 12 July - 11 August 2021.

Exam sessions later in the year
Dates for examination sessions later in the year will be released via our website and newsflash when they become available. Due to the uncertainty around COVID-19 and the evolving Public Health Orders, AMEB (NSW) will not be able to finalise these dates until next year.
